Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty
This is a surgical procedure meant to improve drooping upper eyelids caused by dermatochalasis. Dermatochalasis is extra skin hooding over the eyes. A blepharoplasty is different from ptosis repair. A blepharoplasty may be a functional surgery in which the upper eyelid skin impairs the vision. In this case, it will likely be covered by your insurance. If the dermatochalasis is not visually significant and the goal is to rejuvenate the eyes, it is considered a cosmetic procedure.
This surgery removes excess skin and at times some fat.
The incision is hidden in the upper eyelid crease.
In the recovery period, swelling and bruising are not uncommon. During this time, you will be instructed to use ice to your eyelids and apply an antibiotic ointment to the incision. Strenuous activity should be avoided in the week following surgery.
Sutures are removed in the office approximately one week later.
